About

I began studying design and digital media in 2003 and received a Master’s Degree in Interactive Telecommunications from NYU in 2008. From late 2007 until August 2010 I worked as a freelance designer/programmer as well as a web and systems technologist for Eyebeam Atelier in New York City, one of the leading Art and Technology galleries in the world.

As of fall 2010, I will be working on a PhD in Computer Science in the Craft Technology Lab at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

My greatest fear in life is boredom, not death. I see “design” as the solution to boredom. The fact that one can spend an entire career designing chairs, or lawn gnomes, or cuckoo clocks, and never create the exact same thing twice is what makes design a fascinating activity. Each day brings the opportunity to create something new and improve on something old.

My portfolio provides a sample of my design activities. At the moment, I’m excited about the possibilities of sustainable technology, food in the city, the future of archiving, and designing for the ‘other 90%’. More specifically, I want to understand how to design physical tools with computational capabilities to improve the lives of the poorest communities. This will mean finding innovative ways to make these tools accessible, affordable and easy to use.

In addition to design, I also helped found an independent music label and have been playing a number of different instruments in various bands since I was twelve.
